Vimshottari Dasha: Reading Your Life's Planetary Timeline
Two people can have similar charts yet very different lives — because timing matters as much as placement. Vedic astrology's main timing system is the Vimshottari Dasha: a 120-year cycle that hands each planet a turn to "rule" a stretch of your life.
Mahadasha and Antardasha
Each planet gets a Mahadasha (major period) of fixed length — Venus 20 years, Saturn 19, Mercury 17, and so on — which is sub-divided into Antardashas (sub-periods) of every planet. The planet whose period is running colours the themes of those years through what it signifies and how strong it is in your chart.
Why it's so useful
A strong, well-placed planet tends to give its best results during its own period. That's why a career breakthrough, a marriage or a move so often lines up with a particular Dasha — and why knowing your timeline helps you plan big moves for supportive windows.
